Issue 2: Immigration

Issue 2 — Immigration

New York was built by immigrants. Issue 2 asks what that story looks like twenty years from now, when climate migration has made the question of who belongs existential. The correspondents here are people who have spent their lives at the intersection of immigration, policy, and community — lawyers, organizers, researchers, educators. Their imaginations are shaped by the gap between what the system promises and what it delivers. Together they sketch a New York where the city has stopped pretending immigration is a problem to be managed and started treating it as the source of resilience it has always been — where newcomers don’t just survive but organize, build, and lead.
